Safety & Safeguarding

AuPairly is committed to creating a safe, transparent environment for every au pair and family on our platform.

What Is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding means taking proactive steps to protect people — especially children and young workers — from harm, abuse, and exploitation. In the context of au pair placements, safeguarding covers the wellbeing of both the children in a family's care and the au pair themselves.

South African law gives au pairs specific rights and protections. The Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) and the Children's Act 38 of 2005 set out clear standards for working conditions, child protection, and the responsibilities of both employers (families) and workers (au pairs). AuPairly is designed to support — not replace — these legal protections.

Our Commitment to Safety

We take our responsibility seriously. Here is what AuPairly does to keep everyone on the platform safe:

Profile Review

Every au pair profile is manually reviewed by our team before it becomes visible to families. We check for completeness, appropriateness, and consistency.

Verification Badges

Au pairs can earn verification badges for ID verification, reference checks, first aid certification, and qualification checks. These badges appear on their profile so families can make informed decisions.

Report & Block

Any user can report or block another user at any time. Our admin team reviews all reports and takes action — including profile suspension — where warranted.

In-Platform Messaging

Initial contact stays within AuPairly's messaging system, giving both parties a record of all communications before they choose to exchange personal contact details.

Guidance for Your Role

We have written detailed safety guidance for both au pairs and families. Select the page that applies to you:
